The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) is a regional political party in Tamil Nadu, India, founded by the famous Tamil actor and politician Vijayakanth on September 14, 2005. The party emerged as a significant force in Tamil Nadu's political landscape, particularly during the 2011 state assembly elections when it allied with the AIADMK-led coalition and won 29 seats, becoming the second-largest party in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, with Vijayakanth serving as the Leader of the Opposition.

DMDK's ideology revolves around regional pride, social justice, anti-corruption, and advocating for the welfare of the Tamil people. The party's core support base includes middle-class voters, rural populations, and supporters of Vijayakanth's populist appeal. Initially, DMDK contested elections independently, but it also entered into alliances with larger parties like AIADMK and the BJP, depending on the electoral strategy.

Over the years, the party experienced fluctuating electoral successes. After its peak in 2011, its performance declined in subsequent elections, and it faced internal leadership challenges, especially after Vijayakanth stepped down from the leadership role in 2023, with his wife Premalatha Vijayakant taking over as general secretary.

In recent developments, as of 2025, DMDK rejoined the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), seeking to regain its influence in Tamil Nadu politics. The party continues to promote Tamil nationalism and populist policies, aiming for a resurgence in state politics
